Public Engagement Begins for Kenya’s New Tourism Bill

Kenya’s Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has launched a series of public consultations on the proposed National Tourism Policy and Tourism Amendment Bill 2024. The initiative began on February 10 in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where stakeholders from the North Rift—including representatives from Baringo, Turkana, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties—gathered to share their views.

Following the kickoff in Eldoret, the momentum continued with a session held at Kisumu Hotel on February 14, and most recently, a meeting at Lynson Africa Resort in Narok on February 17. Led by the State Department of Tourism, these forums are designed to address emerging trends in the industry, promote sustainability, improve governance, and cultivate a more supportive environment for tourism growth.

State Department of Tourism Director David Kinyangi, alongside other senior officials, played an active role in the discussions, underscoring the importance of inclusive stakeholder input in shaping the future of Kenya’s tourism sector.

This public consultation is part of a broader schedule of sessions, all set to run from 09:00 to 12:30, at the following venues:

  • FK Resort and Spa, Nyeri: February 24
  • Nokras Silver Oak Hotel, Embu: February 26
  • Nomad Palace Hotel, Garissa: February 28
  • Sarova Whitesands, Mombasa: March 4
  • Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi: March 7

These forums aim to gather valuable insights from across the country to ensure that the new legislation reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of Kenya’s tourism stakeholders.
